Coming a Longish Way, Baby

What does a female champ make compared with a man?
LAST YEAR Amlie
Mauresmo received $1.117 million for winning Wimbledon—a nice chunk of change,
until you consider that Roger Federer took home $53,000 more for winning the
same tournament. (Federer also received a nice gold cup; Mauresmo got what
looks like an oversized cheese tray.) This summer the men's and women's winners
at the All England Club will receive the same amount of loot, making Wimbledon
the last of tennis's majors to award equal prize money to its champions. Here's
a look at how payouts vary by gender in other sports. The upshot: If you've got
a daughter, cancel those golf lessons and get her on the tennis court.
