Leonard Davis Leonard Davis was one of three Big 12 players taken in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft. AP

The Arizona Cardinals chose Leonard Davis with the second pick in the draft. CNN/Sports Illustrated's Josie Karp spoke with Davis shortly after the announcement was made.

Josie Karp: The Arizona Cardinals took a lot of hits on the defensive line, but with the second pick in the draft they chose an offensive lineman. Leonard, what did you do to convince them that they should look toward the offensive line instead of addressing those defensive line needs?

Leonard Davis: Well, like I said earlier, I did everything at the combine ... everything they wanted me to do and everything they asked me to. I had great conversations with the coaches and the scouts and personnel. They liked my attitude a lot and they liked my personality and being a good role model. They liked that and they took that into consideration.

Karp: You had a chance to visit a little bit with Arizona quarterback Jake Plummer. What did he tell you about what he would like you to do for him?

Davis: Well, we didn't really get to talk like that. I just walked out onto the field and met him. We just kind of joked around. One of the coaches said, 'How would you like to have this guy blocking for you?' Just joking around. We didn't get to talk much.

Karp: Your history in college is at the tackle position. Have the Cardinals talked to you about where they want you to play in the NFL?

Davis: They consider me playing guard, but I mean if that's what it takes to help the team win, then that's what I will do.

Karp: Could you talk a little bit about the entourage that you brought here. You're a big guy and you brought a big group.

Davis: Well, you know, it's 26 relatives. They all wanted to come and I said, 'Sure, come on.'

Karp: What's going on, do you think, back in Worthem, Texas? Did you leave anyone back there to celebrate?

Davis: There's people there and they're probably all happy for me right now. They're probably waiting for me to get back.

Karp: Leonard, congratulations and good luck in Arizona.

Davis: Thank you.
