NANCY NEWMAN
Biography
Nancy Newman is an anchor on CNN/Sports Illustrated. She joined CNN in September 1992.
For the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia, Newman was the sole host of CNN's GOODWILL GAMES PREVIEW. In addition to her duties as host, she researched, wrote and was responsible for the show's field production.
Newman worked for The Sports Network (TSN) in Toronto, where she served as a reporter for Sportsdesk. While there, Newman's beat included Major League Baseball, the National Football League and the National Hockey League. She also covered such major sporting events as the Breeders Cup and the Indianapolis 500. Newman also has worked for US Sportsnetwork and Scarboro Television in Toronto as a sports radio reporter and as sports director, anchor and reporter. She holds the distinction of being the first female to anchor the television broadcast of intermission during a professional hockey game. Newman was given the honor of being a presenter at the 1994 National Hockey League Awards ceremony in Toronto.
Newman was the recipient of the 1991 Sovereign award for outstanding broadcast for her work on TSN's "The World of Horse Racing Program." She holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Toronto.
