On second thought ... Now Becker says he might play Wimbledon after allPosted: Monday June 08, 1998 02:29 PM
HALLE, Germany (AP) -- Boris Becker said Monday he might play Wimbledon this year after all, just one week after saying the opposite. Becker told reporters that his decision to enter the All-England Championships depended on how well he played at this week's Halle tournament, a grass tuneup for Wimbledon. "On Friday, I will announce whether I play Wimbledon '98 or not," Becker said. Becker has until Monday to accept a wild card for the grand slam where he enjoyed his greatest career success with three singles titles and six finals between 1985 and 1991. Becker reached the semifinals at Halle last year, then was ousted by Pete Sampras at Wimbledon. Afterwards, the former world No. 1 said his 14th appearance was his last. Since then Becker, who now only occasionally plays tournaments and has moved into developing young German talent, has changed his mind several times.
