Andre Agassi Agassi punches the air after beating Patrick Rafter in their semifinals match on Court No. 1. AP

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- As well as reaching the Wimbledon singles finals, Andre Agassi and Lindsay Davenport took over the No. 1 rankings Saturday -- the first time two Americans have jumped to the top on the same day.

Agassi guaranteed going to No. 1 by beating Australia's Pat Rafter in Saturday's semifinal. Rafter would have been No. 1 had he won the match.

Agassi last topped the rankings in February 1996. He supplants Pete Sampras, coincdentally the player he meets in Sunday's final, and will stay No. 1 even if he loses.

After Sunday's final, the order at the top of the rankings will be Agassi, Rafter, Sampras.

Davenport, who won the U.S. Open last year, went to No. 1 in October and dropped behind Martina Hingis in February. Now she replaces Hingis at the top and Graf will stay No. 3 even if she beats Davenport in the final.
