Philippoussis out 4-6 weeks Posted: Friday July 02, 1999 05:29 PM
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Mark Philippoussis will be sidelined four to six weeks with torn cartilage in his left knee and will miss Australia's Davis Cup quarterfinal against the United States in Boston July 16-18. Philippoussis was injured when he was a set up against defending champion Pete Sampras in Friday's Wimbledon quarterfinal. He retired from the match, saying something had "clicked" in his knee. Philippoussis' coach, Gavin Hopper, said an MRI revealed the cartilage damage. "The rest of the knee is sound," Hopper said. "Mark will return to the United States and undergo an arthroscopy and seek further medical treatment."
