LONDON (AP) -- Swedish international Fredrik Ljungberg scored his
maiden Premier League goal in his debut on Sunday to give Arsenal a 3-0
win over Manchester United at Highbury.
The defending F.A. Cup and League-double titlist led 2-0 when
Ljungberg, a second-half substitute, scored in the 84th minute to
ensure the result.
Arsenal became the first team in Premier League history to beat
Manchester United in three successive league matches.
The Gunners stretched their winning streak against Manchester
United to four, including the 3-0 Charity Shield win at Wembley in
August.
Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt left his team one-man
short for the second time in as many matches when he was red-carded
for a serious foul in the 51st minute.
Butt, who was sent off in United's 3-3 draw with Barcelona in the
European Champions League opener at Old Trafford on Wednesday, made
an illegal tackle on Patrick Vieira in the penalty area.
He conceded a penalty in front of goal, which Arsenal missed, and left last season's runners-up with 10
men for 30 minutes.
Gunners' captain Tony Adams opened the scoring with a well-timed

Arsenal's fourth goal of the league campaign but one of its most
valuable.
Hughes, deputizing for the injured Emmanuel Petit, fired in the
pass from the right side and Adams outjumped Jaap Stam for a gentle
header past Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
United's England midfielder David Beckham went close to
equalizing when a 25-yard shot hit the inside of the post and
bounced across in front of the Arsenal goal.
Sustained attack from both sides led to Arsenal's second goal in
the 44th minute, giving the homeside a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Nicolas Anelka received a long-range pass from Marc Overmars and
although Schmeichel stopped his first attempt off the right foot,
the young Frenchman swooped onto a rebound and made no mistake with
his second shot off his left foot.
Beckham had another penalty attempt right before halftime but failed to
reproduce the accuracy which netted him a brilliant goal in the
Champions League clash against Barcelona.
In the only Division One match on Sunday, West Bromwich Albion
slumped to its third defeat in four matches, losing 2-0 to
Brdford.
Lee Mills, a 1 million-pound ($1.68 million) transfer from
Port Vale last month, scored both goals to give Bradford its first
away win of the season.
In Scottish Premier Division matches Sunday, Hearts escaped with
a 1-1 tie with Dunfermline. The match between defending titlist
Celtic and Rangers was due to kick-off at 6 p.m. local time.
