Working round the clock Cardiff's World Cup stadium will be ready on timePosted: Thursday October 01, 1998 12:46 PM
CARDIFF, Wales (Reuters) -- Builders at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium will have to work 24 hours a day to ensure it is ready in time for the 1999 Rugby Union World Cup. The tournament kicks off on October 1 and the main developers of the old Cardiff Arms Park are behind schedule. Developers Laing were granted permission by Cardiff City Council on Wednesday to work around the clock from Monday to Friday and for 10 hours on Saturdays and eight hours on Sundays -- a 138-hour working week. The contractors said they needed the extended hours because poor weather over the summer had hampered work. Welsh Rugby Union chairman Glanmor Griffiths has said that although developers are trying to complete a four-year job in just two-and-a-half years, the stadium will be ready in time.
