DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (AP) - World champion Michelle Kwan and Olympic gold medalist Ilia Kulik will compete in the Nice 'n Easy Figure Skating Classic on October 3-4.

The first major event of the 1998-99 season, the event will be held under International Skating Union rules with both Olympic-eligible and professional skaters invited for the singles-only event.

Kwan, the silver medalist at the Nagano Olympics, won her second world championship in March. She will be joined in the women's division by 1998 U.S. Olympic Team member Nicole Bobek; three-time world silver medalist Surya Bonaly of France; 1988 Olympic runner-up Liz Manley of Canada; and American Angela Nikodinov, who placed fifth at this year's national championships.

Kulik, who staged one of the most impressive men's performances ever in winning at Nagano, faces a strong field that also includes five-time American champ Todd Eldredge; 1996 U.S. champion Rudy Galindo; Michael Weiss, runner-up at the last two U.S. nationals; and Timothy Goebel, the first American to land a quadruple jump in competition.
