DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Miami Dolphins running back Lamar Smith, who set an NFL playoff record with 40 carries in Saturday's victory over Indianapolis, sat out practice Tuesday as a precaution.

Head coach Dave Wannstedt said he expects Smith to be fine for Saturday's game at Oakland.

"He's beat up a little bit," Wannstedt said. "I would expect him to be sore. I'm not concerned about it."

Smith sat out practice in part to rest his left ankle, which he sprained in the first quarter Saturday. He overcame the injury to rush for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the overtime win over the Colts.

"I'm fine. I feel good," Smith said in a statement. "I'm a little sore, but you'd expect that after carrying the ball 40 times."

Wide receiver Leslie Shepherd, who has missed the past four games with a sore knee, practiced and is expected to play Saturday.
