Nickle Trap: St. Louis offensive coordinator Mike Martz likes to spread out the defense and run the ball with Marshall Faulk (#28). In this play, four wide receivers are in the game, two on each side of the formation. Kurt Warner (#13) gives Faulk a quick inside handoff, trying to spring him up the middle before the safeties can get over to make the tackle. The key to this play is the blocking action of the five offensive linemen. The most important block here is that of the left guard, who moves on a quick pull to kick out the left defensive tackle. The center crosses in front of him, blocking down on the right defensive tackle to seal off the hole. On the back side of the play, the right guard tries to kick out the left defensive end, freeing up the right tackle to try to get across the formation to lead Faulk into the secondary.
