LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Kobe Bryant scored 19 points in his season debut and Shaquille O'Neal continued his strong play with 28 points and 23 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers pasted the reeling Golden State Warriors, 93-75.

Greeted by a rousing ovation before the game and a standing ovation when he entered the contest late in the first quarter, Bryant struggled from the field. He made just 7-of-18 shots but grabbed six rebounds in 30 minutes.

Bryant missed the first 15 games of the season with a broken bone in his right hand, suffered in Los Angeles' first exhibition game. He wore a protective purple glove on his hand.

"My hand feels a little numb," said Bryant, "I was a little tired at first but then I got my second wind. My legs felt a little heavy. The thing that was a little frustrating was that my vision was off. ... It was a little cloudy."

"He has a long way to go until he gets a real feel for it, especially on his shot and the rhythm of our offense," said Lakers coach Phil Jackson. "Kobe is going to find a way to score whether he is shooting well or not. That is the mentality he brings to the game."

O'Neal, who earlier in the day was honored as Player of the Month, recorded his second 20-20 effort of the season. He made 12-of-21 shots while the rest of the Lakers combined to make just 23-of-72 (32 percent).

After the game Bryant revealed that O'Neal gave him some advice about his protective glove.

"He said when I made my first bucket I should do like a little a little Michael Jackson," Bryant said.

The win was the Lakers' seventh in nine games and Los Angeles had held four consecutive foes under 85 points for the first time since March 1954, when the franchise was in Minneapolis and George Mikan was manning the middle. The Lakers also improved to 6-0 in the second game of back-to-back contests.

Mookie Blaylock and Chris Carr, who was signed earlier in the day, scored 13 points apiece for Golden State, which has lost seven straight games and are a Western Conference-worst 2-12.

"No one talks about their defense," Warriors coach P.J.

Carlesimo said. "They are sixth in points and sixth in field-goal percentage and they don't turn the ball over so they are going to there every night to give themselves a chance to win. They are just going to get better offensively.

"When they get Kobe integrated into the way they play it, they'll be a very hard team to defend. They spread the floor very well. The way they are playing as early in the season as it is, without a key player, they are scary at this point."

The Lakers led 21-18 after a period but were ahead just 27-25 with 8:57 left in the first half. O'Neal sank a 10-footer off a feed from Bryant to ignite a 15-3 burst that broke open the game.

O'Neal continued his roll by adding a seven-foot hook with 6:08 remaining. He was fouled on the play but missed the free throw.

He grabbed the rebound and sank a nine-footer for a 33-25 lead.

He was fouled on that basket but again missed the free throw.

Rice made it a 10-point lead with a 14-footer with 4:35 to go and Bryant coverted a layup 33 seconds later. O'Neal added a free throw with 2:39 left to push the lead to 38-25 before Jason Caffey hit a 14-footer to end a 7:08 drought for the Warriors.

Derek Harper extended the lead to 40-27 with a 17-footer before Antawn Jamison hit a free throw with 12 seconds remaining. But A.C. Green hit two free throws with two seconds left to push the lead to 14 at the break.

O'Neal had seven points and 10 rebounds in the third quarter as the Lakers opened a 21-point cushion. Los Angeles made just 7-of-21 shots in the period but was able to extend the lead by holding Golden State to just 28 percent (7-of-25) shooting.

"We still can't score and we are still not defending," Jamison said. "That's been the story for the last five or six games.

It's always frustrating when you are not putting the ball in the hole."
