10 Questions Camby discusses bowling, Goldberg and punctualityPosted: Sunday January 30, 2000 04:42 PM
The Knicks' Marcus Camby garnered a lot of attention during New York's run to last year's NBA Finals with his energy, shot-blocking and aggressive play in the paint. Camby recently took time out to answer questions about his hobbies, his principal goal once his career is done and whether he'd spin or solve the puzzle. 1. You have a knack for coming out of nowhere for rebounds or blocks. How do you do it? It's effort. You gotta want to go in there and get the job done. When the ball's up for a rebound, I think it's mine every time, so I'm gonna find a way to get to the hole. 2. Would you rather block a shot or slam one home? Block a shot. Block a shot, and usually that'll lead to a fast break, and we can go down and I can slam it. 3. We've seen your problems with ESPN the Magazine. Has your Sports Illustrated ever arrived late? Nope. It's always been on time. 4. You're a big wrestling fan. Who would win in a match between Stone Cold and Goldberg? Goldberg's too strong, so I say Goldberg would win that match. 5. How would he win it? I don't know. There'd probably be some outside interference. I mean Stone Cold is one of my favorites also, so something fishy would have to happen.
6. If you could put "The Stunner" on any one player in the league, who would you put it on? Actually I'd like to put it on a couple of referees sometimes out there. 7. You also like bowling. Have you ever made the 7-10 split? Never. 8. Which was the better movie: "The Big Lebowski" or "Kingpin"? "The Big Lebowski" was funnier. That's my movie. Yeah, I like that movie. 9. You've said you want to be an elementary-school principal. Why? I just like working with kids. I started a foundation called "Cambyland," and I'm giving back to my community back home in Hartford, Conn. I was an education major in college, so I anticipate going into that field. 10. You were on "Wheel of Fortune" last November. If you knew what the puzzle was, would you solve it or would you take one more spin? It depends. If I were able to keep the money, I'd spin again. But if I were playing for charity like I was on that event, then I'd just solve the puzzle.
