Pistons place Hill on injured list

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Grant Hill was placed on the injured list Wednesday and missed Detroit's season-ending game against Chicago.

The Pistons needed a victory -- or a loss by Milwaukee against Washington -- to clinch the seventh seed in the East and a first-round matchup with the Miami Heat.

Hill has a bone bruise in his left ankle. He was placed on the injured list about an hour before game time, and guard Jermaine Jackson was activated to take his place.

Hill will be eligible to play in Detroit's playoff opener this weekend.

Hill missed Detroit's previous two games after aggravating the injury in an April 15 loss at Philadelphia. He finishes the season with a 25.8 points per game average in 74 games and also led the team in assists at 5.2 a game.
