PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Susan Moran scored six of her 24 points in a decisive second-half run as 10th-seeded St. Joseph's pulled away for a 69-48 victory over No. 7 Texas in an NCAA Tournament West Region first-round game.

Moran made a layup and a jumper to start the 15-4 spurt and give the Hawks (25-5) a 38-34 lead with 16:45 remaining. After a layup by Texas' Tracy Cook, Moran nailed another jumper.

Jane Meade scored the next three points for St. Joseph's and a steal by Moran led to a layup by Jana Lichnerova that extended the advantage to 45-36 with 11:22 to play. Texas (21-13) got no closer than seven points thereafter and suffered its second straight first-round loss.

Moran also had 13 rebounds and four steals, while Lichnerova finished with 14 points and 11 boards for St. Joseph's. The Hawks will face Rutgers in the second round on Sunday.

St. Joseph's shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) in the first half but trailed by as many as seven points before rallying for a 32-30 lead at intermission.

The Hawks also got 12 points and five assists from Angie Zampella to reach the second round for the third time in four years.

Edwina Brown scored 14 points but was the only player in double figures for the Lady Longhorns, who had more turnovers (8) than field goals (7) in the second half as they were outscored, 37-18.
