BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- April Brown scored 14 of her 18 points in the decisive second half as third-seeded Louisiana State pulled away for a 77-54 rout of No. 14 Liberty in an East Region first-round game.

LSU (23-6) started sluggishly before only 1,706 on its home court, leading just 29-28 at halftime. But Brown had six points and a pair of assists during a 16-4 run in the second half. Her 18-foot jumper from the right side gave the Tigers a commanding 52-36 advantage with 9:39 to play.

Liberty (23-8) got no closer than 13 points thereafter and trailed by as many as 26 points down the stretch.

Marie Ferdinand led LSU with 22 points on 11-of-16 shooting, adding six assists, six rebounds and four steals.

DeTrina White chipped in 13 points and Katrina Hibbert had 11 for the Tigers, who face Stephen F. Austin in the second round on Sunday.

LSU has reached the "Sweet 16" two of the last three years.

Sharon Wilkerson had 16 points and eight rebounds and Elena Kisseleva scored 13 points for Liberty, which has lost in the first round in each of its four NCAA Tournament appearances.
