LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Kasib Powell scored 21 points and Pawel Storozynski added 14 as No. 22 Texas Tech posted a 62-48 victory over cold-shooting Houston.

The Red Raiders (9-1) allowed just 15 points in the first half, opening a 21-point lead at the intermission.

Texas Tech shot only 39 percent (22-of-56), but held the Cougars to under 28 percent (17-of-61). In the first half, Houston made just 7-of-32 attempts.

Andre Emmett added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Texas Tech, which posted its fourth straight victory.

Louis Truscott was the only player in double figures for Houston (2-7), collecting 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Cougars, who suffered their third straight loss, made their first appearance at Texas Tech since January 20, 1996, when the teams were rivals in the now-defunct Southwestern Conference.

Houston, which committed 22 turnovers, got off to a miserable start, failing to reach double figures until there were just four minutes left in the first half.

In the first 13 minutes, the Cougars scored just six points, all by Truscott.

Texas Tech led by as many as 28 in the second half, but Houston used an 18-4 spurt to cut the deficit to 12 with under a minute remaining.

Texas Tech coach Bob Knight moved within four wins of 800 for his career, improving to 796-299.
