GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Homecourt didn't do anything for Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Kirk Penney and Mark Vershaw scored eight points apiece in the first half, leading 20th-ranked Wisconsin to an 11-point lead at the break and a 61-53 victory over UW-Green Bay.

Roy Boone scored 15 points to lead the Badgers (4-1), who beat the Phoenix for the seventh straight year, though this was the first time in the series the teams met in Green Bay.

The Badgers took a double-digit lead midway through the first half and used its stifling defense to keep the Phoenix from getting back into it.

Chris Sager led UW-Green Bay (3-4) with 18 points.

Last December 8, Wisconsin held UW-Green Bay to its lowest point total of the season in a 55-34 victory.

Wisconsin is now 2-0 under interim coach Brad Soderberg, who took over after Dick Bennett retired unexpectedly last week, and has won nine consecutive games against unranked opponents since a 61-55 loss to Iowa on January 29.

Bennett, who posted a 93-69 record in five-plus seasons and led Wisconsin to the Final Four in March, also guided UW-Green Bay to five postseason appearances before coaching Wisconsin.
