Last season Matt Williams committed only 12 errors in 151
games at third base for the Indians, and Jay Bell was
charged with only 10 miscues in 149 games at shortstop for
the Royals. Should both players repeat their defensive
performances this season,
the error total by the left side of the Diamondbacks' infield
would be among the lowest in major league history. Only
eight teams have ever had fewer than 30 errors from the
third base and shortstop positions combined over the course
of a season of at
least 150
games.
