McGwire hits No. 51 in the A's eight-run fifth inning at Seattle. Then, in his second at-bat in the same frame, Mac whacks No. 52, becoming the 28th player to hit two homers in an inning. With 28 homers on the road, he ties an Oakland club mark he already shared with Jose Canseco.

  They Said It: Former major league slugger Frank Howard, 1998: "Someone asked me the other day if he was the Babe Ruth of the '90s. I said that was a pretty good description. He can do things the rest of us mere mortals couldn't do. I don't think I've ever seen anyone hit it as far as consistently as he does."
