Technically, Brandel Chamblee was like any other Masters Tournament rookie in 1999. But his first experience playing the Masters didn't seem foreign to him at all.

"Even though I've never played here before, I know this golf course just from watching TV," said the 36-year-old who had seen every Masters on television since Jack Nicklaus won in 1975. "I felt like I played here before just from watching all these years."

Chamblee's scorecard reflected the confidence of a veteran. He eagled No. 13, birdied three holes (3, 11 and 18) and bogeyed the 12th and 14th to shoot 3-under-par 69 that shared the first-round lead with Davis Love III, Scott McCarron and Nick Price.

"Well, it's the best round I've ever played here," quipped the jocular pro whose only PGA Tour victory in 15 years came at the 1998 Greater Vancouver Open.
